Located in the 6th Arrondissement on the Left Bank, in the heart of the fashionable Saint Germain des Pres, Paris’s artistic and spiritual center, the Esprit Saint Germain opened in 2004 after a 3 year, $8 million total renovation of two adjoining 18th-century buildings.
One of the city’s newest designer hotels, Esprit Saint Germain is across from the Saint Sulpice Church, surrounded by chic boutiques and restaurants, and only minutes from the Jardins du Luxembourg and Boulevard Saint Germain. The stylish interior features raw plaster walls, slate tiles, marble flooring, warm leather and rich fabrics.
All of the hotel’s 31 accommodations feature flat-screen TVs, wall mounted DVD/CD players, cordless phones, king-size beds, tea and coffee making facilities, mini-bar and en-suite bathrooms with luxurious Etro toiletries. The hotel’s elegant Suite has a separate living room and private terrace. The hotel’s lounge bar and adjoining conservatory serves complimentary drinks to all guests and is the perfect place to unwind. The wellness center on the sixth floor offers a steam room, sauna and exercise equipment.
The area of St. Germain was a center of the glittering café society of the post-war years, drawing such names as Sartre and Camus, singers Juliette Greco, Jacques Brel, and Charles Aznavour, along with Jazz greats Miles Davis and Duke Ellington. The Church of St. Germain des Pres, the oldest Abbey in Paris, dates from 543 AD. On the corner of the square in front of the church is the cafe ‘Les Deux Magots’ and nearby is the ‘Cafe Flore,’ both of which are literary and artistic shrines associated with many writers and artists such as Jean Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Picasso and Apollinaire. Across the road is Brasserie Lipp favored by politicians, writers and celebrities.
